Setup for Production Access

You can use Indent to manage ephemeral access to your production environment to deal with customer bugs, outages, or other live-site issues.

Goal: You want to restrict access to your production environment, but you want to ensure employees can get access when they need it during critical outages.

How it works: Indent connects to your production, identity, and notification tools to manage access to your production environment.

  • Request access to production from Slack or the Indent Dashboard.
  • Review and approve access requests from Slack.
  • Grant time-bound access to your production environment.
  • Automatically revoke access to your production environment.

Step 1: Select integrations

  • Go through the Indent Setup Wizard to pick the integrations you want to use.
  • Click Next Step to continue and confirm that you're an admin.
  • Click Finish Setup to continue and connect the systems via OAuth.

Step 2: Test with yourself

  1. Open indent.com/access and type /access in Slack.
  2. Select the Resource you want to access.
  3. Review and approve the request in Slack.
  4. Check that access was provisioned to your production group.
  5. Revoke access in Slack and check that access was revoked from your production group.

Step 3: Onboard your team

  1. On the setup page, click Onboard your team.
  2. Select the team members you want to onboard, and click Onboard (X) people action.
  3. Select how they should be onboarded:
    • Notify users — this will send the users a notification via Email/Slack.
    • Create petitions — this will raise requests on behalf of the users.
  4. Click Onboard to send an onboarding message to your team members.

Conclusion

Congrats! You've just configured requesting and managing ephemeral production access with Indent.
